The Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed for lower-risk workplaces/areas, where the likelihood of severe injury or illness is low.  It will enable the learner to develop skills and knowledge to deal with a range of emergency situations and take appropriate action.

 

The unit covers all aspects of health and safety (first aid) regulations 1981;

 

* Understand the role of the first-aider, including reference to:  

   – the importance of preventing cross-infection;  

   – the need for recording incidents and actions;  

   – use of available equipment;

* Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.

* Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure).

* Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator.

* Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking. 

* Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding. 

* Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock. 

* Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters). 

Assessment is carried out through continuous practical observation, simulation and theory (multiple choice) assessment. 

This qualification is unit 1 and can be used towards achieving the First Aid at work qualification (unit 2 must be completed to achieve this) 

Learners must have a reasonable understanding of English to achieve the requirements of this unit.

The course duration is 1 day (normally 0900 – 1700Hrs) 

The cost starts from £50 pp or £500 for a group (up to 12 persons).
